Summer nights. Outdoor dining. Garden parties. Twinkling
lights lining a garden path. Sounds beautiful. Sounds elegant. Sounds peaceful.
Not so fast. I have tried and I have failed far too many times with summer
tea lights in my garden. Why do good ideas sound so fantastic, yet so disappointing the next morning? Well, remember Cinderella and her glass slipper? Something always has to get in the way. Mother Nature.
She can be pretty harsh when it comes to man-made touches in her garden. And I have
tested her. But I never give up hope. You might ask, what is so difficult about tea
lights? Well, let me explain…
First, you have to light them by hand, one by one and then blow them out
after each use. Don’t dare walk away for long.
And if it rains? This happens…
Go solar! Well, they are big, not very attractive and they need direct sunlight
to charge. So what happens if it is a cloudy day? And they must be brought in each night so they don't get wet. Like, no, that’s not
happening. Not very outdoor friendly.
Oh, and this happens when they are left outside for a short time…
Sometimes this happens...ewww
Well, how about this? Tea lights with an automatic on/off timer, in a waterproof jar with a simple waterproof wire holder? Brilliant (and
it does work)! And they're cute!
This is what you will need-

Tea Lights with timer...Link here.
To set the timer on the tea light, flip the switch to "on" at
the time of day you would like to start the on/off cycle. The light will turn on and stay
lit for 6 hours, then it will turn off. That's right, it stays on for six hours! 18 hours later, the tea light will turn
on, starting the on/off cycle.
Place tea light in jar.
Open wire handle and place over opening of jar, just under
the jar lip. Slide shut to secure.
This glass slipper worked out well for Cinderella. And they all lived happily ever after.
